Conrad O’Brien attorney Kevin Dooley Kent has been recognized as a 2018 “Law Firm Innovator” by The Legal Intelligencer. For the Law Firm Innovator Award, The Legal sought attorneys “that are on the cutting edge of the profession.” The award recognized those lawyers who “think outside the box and have demonstrated an ability to distinguish their brands in a crowded market.” Kevin has emerged within the firm and legal profession as a leader in developing and regularly using alternative fee arrangements (AFAs).
As clients look to redefine their billing arrangements with their legal providers, Kevin has been on the forefront of proposing alternative fee arrangements and finding creative solutions that fit both the clients’ wishes and fulfill the firm’s needs. Many of the AFAs Kevin has adopted use hourly billing as a component, but he frequently uses highly tailored, less conventional arrangements. Kevin has spearheaded a database of fee agreements at the firm, where he has involved the firm’s marketing staff in creating and maintaining templates of various fee arrangements. He often shares these templates with clients or prospective clients in open conversations about billing options prior to the start of any engagements, yielding a more productive and open client relationship.
Kevin will be featured in the Legal’s June 2018 “Professional Excellence Supplement” and will be honored at an awards dinner in the Chrystal Tea Room in Philadelphia on June 27, 2018.
