Patricia Hennessy and Kathleen Nagle attended the National Alliance of Public Charter Schools National Conference on June 17 – 20, 2018 in Austin, Texas.
Pat presented two lectures at the conference. “The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions: Latent Legal Threats,” was co-presented with Matthew Plain of Barton Gilman. Well-intentioned efforts at quality or actors with bad intent have slowly limited independence and innovation of charter schools and created latent legal issues even in the best chartering environments, the presenters discussed that threat and how to best insulate a charter school.
Pat also presented on “The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea: A Mindset of Ethical Decision Making for Administrators.” co-presented with Beth Jones, Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Public Charter Schools and Chief Financial Officer of Insight PA Cyber Charter School. They provided the charter school leaders with advice on how to select the best ethical decision when there are competing priorities, resource distribution issues, or bad actors present leaders with ethical dilemmas
